PineBridge ESG Quantitative Bond A TWD

The Pinebridge ESG Quantitative Bond Fund is awarded Outstanding Achiever in the Taiwan ESG Integration category for its recently launched bond fund dedicated to ESG compliant issuers.

To execute its core investment theme of corporate and country issuers with better ESG ratings, it has integrated ESG across its strategy and processes. We were impressed with how Pinebridge instilled a quantitative underpinning to the fund with a proprietary ESG framework to extract materiality incorporated into its credit analysis and decision-making process.

Key risk indicators (KRIs) for issuers are compiled to achieve this, which set quantitative ESG analysis indicators for sustainability issues expected to impact financing costs significantly. A total of nine ESG factors evaluate ESG scores and equally weighted to give a final rating.

Using KRIs to quantify materiality in ESG risks, investment decisions should price in ESG factors to reflect risk and required returns. Engagement is not the best, but as a bond fund, engagement is considered outstanding.

With the fund only a year old, it is still early to assess the methodology and whether ESG policies enhanced returns. Looking forward, we would like to see how ESG KRIs can be fine-tuned to maximize impact scores.

This fund has been reviewed by four industry veterans of the Benchmark judging committee.
